As a Canadian who married a Mexican, I would find subtle misconceptions about foreigners, about why Mexicans would marry "possibly rich" foreigners, etc. In Canada, when I announced my engagement, a woman asked me, "Is it true Mexicans are lazy?" I said not at all, they have to work very hard. Then there's the cartoon of the man in a big hat sleeping under a cactus.
