Effortless and carefree?
A short pandemic reflection
No demands. No one I have to feed besides myself. No socializing, or very little. No trips to take… much of the world is paralyzed. In some ways, life seems effortless, a movie in slow motion.
The ginger kitty lives with no cares, sprawled in the sunshine on the bed with his stripes golder than ever.
Hungering for variety, I take a short hike to a nearby eco-park and stroll around the lake. Ducks, geese, and herons seem to live an effortless life, much as they occasionally dive for fish hidden from my eyes.
Peacocks strut near the pathway. Countless white birds — perhaps smaller herons — begin to gather in a huge tree, concentrating on community and rest as the day ends.
These creatures transmit peace.
Around us, people are struggling and dying. A man I know just succumbed to COVID and tears have streamed down my cheeks. I feel almost guilty to be protected and fairly stress-free.
I can breathe, effortlessly.
