I read once that successful young people (i.e. not delinquents, druggies, rebels) tended to have a background including several elements. I believe one was churchgoing. Another was regular meals with family. And I forget the others. My husband, kids and I tried to have at least the main meal (early p.m. here) together and often the evening meal or lighter supper, for us. Oh yes. Growing up, my parents always insisted we say Excuse me when we wanted to leave the table. Nowadays, it seems more kids just get up and walk off! At least I've seen that. And that kind of home seems to involve less after-dinner conversation, which is so important.
