I very much like your ideas, except that “latent is taken to mean “dormant or hidden”. I trust that his faith is neither dormant nor hidden. Perhaps a good antonym of what you wish to express is blatant, as “In your face”. As a university teacher I found it challenging to find a middle space in which my dedication and integrity could speak of my faith, and then took advantage of rare occasions when I could speak more overtly without seeming to take advantage of my position.
