In Mexico we have laws that defend laicism, the separation of church and state. Political leaders are not allowed to speak as such in churches (good!). Public schools do not teach religion. There are extremes, I think, such as pastors not being allowed to seek political posts, etc. But all of this came about because of abuse in the past, especially the control the Catholic church had over society. The American situation is quite different, but I believe the First Amendment says it clearly.
